HCDE2 UCSG Radio, Guayaquil 1190

One of the highlights on October 19 was hearing a loud and clear "En UCSG Radio ..." between two songs on 1190 kHz. The station was heard for just a few minutes, making the timing perfect!

UCSG Radio belongs to Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil. It wasn't easy getting in contact with the station, but thanks to information from Anders Hultqvist (AHK) I received an email today with a confirmation of my reception.

This was my MW QSL #20 (#9 in 2010) from Ecuador, and QSL #70 from Latin America in 2010.

HJTP Radio Colina, Girardot 1230

I don't know if anything particular has happened to Radio Calidad, but anyhow 1230 kHz has offered a lot of exciting DX from Latin America this season. One new station is Radio Colina in Girardot, Departamento de Cundinamarca, heard with a nice signal on October 19. Today I received an email from Fernando Mancera (photo), kindly confirming my reception.
Thanks to Gert for v/s info.
QSL #80 from Colombia!

WCXN Claremont NC 1170

I found a news story about WWVA Wheeling WV on KOJE on August 11:
"All three towers damaged due a severe thunderstorm. Station is now on the air with STA: Emergency Long Wire Antenna (height 40ft, length 125ft) and power of 12.5 kW day and night".
Because of this WWVA hasn't been the usual super dominant this fall, making 1170 a lot more interesting frequency! Our 670-meter-long antenna at Smøla is probably broken, and has mainly favoured latin Americans this season. But on a recording made on November 10 I found La Que Buena 1170 AM WCXN Claremont NC, after having heard WMOB Mobile AL 1360 the same morning. Quite enjoyable!

HJDI Radio Bolivariana, Medellín 1110

One of many exciting signals from Latin America heard on Smøla on October 19 was Radio Bolivariana of Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín. I was hunting stations from Ecuador, but this morning also had huge signals from Medellín. Thanks to Henrik Klemetz, who helped me identify this one, and to Ana Cristina Aristizábal Uribe, Comunicadora Social, for confirming my reception.

HCIM1 Radio Municipal "La Voz de Imbabura", Ibarra 1050

Yeah! I know I have mentioned before, and I know I'll mention again, that October 19 was an absolutely fantastic day for hearing AM radio stations from Latin America. The minutes around 06 UTC was a golden moment, and gave the far best conditions towards Ecuador and Colombia I've ever experienced.

Checking 1050 kHz a few days later gave me a minor chock - I wasn't too surprised hearing Ecuador there, but expected it to be Radio Águila which I had heard on September 4. But hearing announcements and identifications from Radio Municipal "La Voz de Imbabura" from Ibarra, Provincia de Imbabura, was an experience out of this world. And what a signal!

Today I received a long and very friendly email from Eduardo Vásquez Terán, confirming this reception. The station has a live feed on the web at http://www.ibarra.gob.ec/ and at 16.00 Ecuador time today they were going to mention my reception report. Unfortunately I was home too late to hear this.

KLBB Stillwater MN 1220

KLBB was heard by the others at last year's KONG19 after I had left the building, so this station was quite high on my Top 200 Target List for North America. I was happy to pick up "Welcome to AM 12-20 KLBB" on October 16, and also to receive a confirmation of this from Operations Manager Tim Daigle. KLBB was running at 254W night power when I heard them, according to Tim.

HO... Radio Avivamiento, Panamá 1530

October 19 was a great morning for hearing stations from Latin America - probably the best conditions I've experienced ever (in this case that's 1978-2010)! With quite few frequencies checked I've already found at least 10 new stations - from Panamá, Ecuador and Colombia.
The first verification came from long time wanted Radio Avivamiento.
Thanks to Ricardo Lay for confirming my reception and to Gert Nilsson for v/s info.
