KUBR San Juan TX 1210

It was great hearing KUBR for the very first time on 21 Ocrtober 2005 during KONG13. Since then this station has been heard several times a lot of Scandinavian DX'ers. It was great also receiving a confirmation, even if it took three years.

WJDA Quincy MA 1300

WJDA was heard during KONG17 last year, but it took some time to obtain a confirmation of my reception. Thank you for the verfication, Pastor Joel L. de Assis!

WSAL Logansport IN 1230

Another station not even mentioned in KOJE, 1230 AM WSAL, surfaced with a nice signal on the excellent day of 26 September 2008. This is a family run station and has been "Your News & Sports Voice for over 50 years". General Manager, Sales Manager and salesperson Dan Keister kindly confirmed my reception, and also attached a photo of the staff.

KDHL Faribault MN 920

KDHL had been on my list for a while, and finally I heard them on 22 November 2008, late in the morning. This was a very good day for DX'ing North Americans, and hopefully a lot of interesting stations are still to be found on my recordings from this day.

WNWT Rossford OH 1520

This station, changing its format and call letters last July, was one of the numerous exciting stations heard in the late evening on 23 October 2008 (KONG18).

KZIM Cape Girardeau MO 960

News Radio 960 KZIM - a non-KOJE station - was heard on Smøla on the fantastic day of 22 November 2008. The ID wasn't very clear, but sometimes you just are lucky: "Good morning Arnstein. I listened to your DX this morning and I can confirm you heard our Tim Root giving the weather here in Cape Girardeau. I’m a radio operator myself, and it’s always exciting to be heard. Thanks for sending us this contact."
Thanks for a great confirmation!

WQAM Miami FL 560

WGAN was heard for many hours in the early morning of 22 November, but I succeeded to hear one or two IDs from Sports Radio 560 WQAM as well - a new one to me.

Tuesday, 16 December 2008

WBGG Pittsburgh PA 970

Fox Sports 970 - a KOJE2 station - was heard on Smøla on the excellent day of 22 November 2008. Thanks for confirming my reception so quickly!

CHLT Sherbrooke QC 630

Two things are necessary for CHLT to be heard at Smøla: 1) good conditions 2) NRK Vigra off. Both things happened on 22 November 2008, and my reception report was quickly confirmed via email. Merci!

KNSS Wichita KS 1330

News Radio 1330 KNSS was heard on 20 October 2008 (KONG18), and was kind enough to confirm my reception via email.

WGAN Portland ME 560

I had never heard WGAN before, but in the morning of 22 November 2008 I could hear them for four and a half hours! Thanks for the confirmation of my reception.

ZYJ455 Rádio Tupi, Rio de Janeiro 1280

A very nice and interesting letter in English confirmed my 7 September 2008 reception of Rádio Tupi:

"Dear Mr. Bue : best regards from Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.
I do confirm your reception of Radio Tupi in Norway, Trondheim City, while we broadcasted "Super Madrugada Tupi", with Fernando Sergio as the anchorman.

The reception is very good, indeed. Better than we pick at Downton Rio de Janeiro - Strong noise fields generated by the buildings, eletric lines, computers, cars, etc...

I am sendig to you some attachments: photos of Tupi-AM allowed daylight RF field, of our Harris DX-100 transmitter, of our two towers at the transmitter site, a reference map in the Google Maps and a Corcovado Mountain photo, with the statue of Christ Redemptor in the cume with the moon behind - it is not photoshop, it happens one day each year.

Brazil has around 1.500 AM stations and 2.500 FM stations as conventional stations and more than 5.000 LPFM - or "communitarian stations".

I hope these informations are helpfull for you and all we wish to you and your fammily a Happy Christmas and a Very Good New Year.

With our best regards,

Jose Claudio Barbedo(Formiga)
Technical Manager
Tupi Radio Network
Rio de Janeiro"

WKWF Key West FL 1600

As far as I can remember WKWF was the only North American heard among a lot of interesting Latin Americans during this fantastic DX week end at Smøla early September 2007.
"The mp3 of the audio signal was incredibly clear, and that's Scott Hamilton, our Program Director talking about the Key's Hurricane Guide. WKWF is a 24/7 sports radio station broadcasting with only 500 watts ERP omni-directional signal from just outside of Key West. [...] WKWF was the first radio station in the Florida Keys. The first broadcast aired in September 1945. I will try and put together more nostalgia about Key West radio and forward to our DX listeners." Thanks for the confirmation, Randall!

JO.. NHK-2 Okinawa 1602

This 0,1 kW JOAD relay station was heard with a fair signal during the station identification at 2220 JST on 22 October 2006. QSL card confirming this KONG15 reception was received today as well.

JOAD NHK-2 Okinawa, Naha 1125

On 16 October 2006 JOAD har a good signal on 1125 during their local ID at 2220 JST, and today I received a perfect QSL card confirming this KONG15 reception. Reception report (reminder) in Japanese via the contact form on the NHK Okinawa home page 16 days ago worked well - this seems to be the safest way to get verifications from NHK stations these days. This was my MW QSL #40 from Japan.

WKMC Roaring Spring PA 1370

Listening to my 1370 recording from the evening of 23 October 2008 I suddenly heard a station coming up from WDEA, with a surprisingly clear “... on 13-70 WKMC”.
This station has a Music Of Your Life format, and confirmed my reception with a brief email tonight. Thanks!

WRNI Providence RI 1290

Rhode Island's NPR was heard on 1 October 2008, which was a day with at least a handful of new AM stations from North America. WRNI confirmed my reception the day after I sent my reception report via email. Check out their web site at http://www.wrni.org/, and please do support National Public Radio.

JOER RCC Chugoku Hoso, Hiroshima 1350

My latest reception report to JOER was sent on 18 July 2007, and today I received an envelope from Hiroshima with a programme schedule and QSL card card ("QSLNo NOR003"), perfectly confirming my 16 October 2006 (KONG15) reception.

Monday, 8 December 2008

CJSN Shaunavon SK 1490

I was pleased to hear at least one of the two Canadians I was missing at 1490 AM - on 25 October 2008 I heard CJSN a couple of times among several US stations.

CHNC New Carlisle QC 610

I've just realized that I have been close to ignoring stations from Quebec for all these years, so now I have to try to catch as many as possible of them still on air. CHNC was captured on 27 September 2008 at Kalvøya, Smøla, by my remotely operated SDR-IQ.

JOCB NHK-2 Nagoya 909

A nice, old fashioned QSL card was received by mail today, confirming my 17 October 2006 (KONG15) reception. This was 8 days after I sent them a reminder in Japanese by filling in the contact form on their web, with links to my reception report on my mp3 recording on box.net. Thanks to Google Translate and to Gert Nilsson!

WING Dayton OH 1410

WING is another station heard in the late evening of 23 October 2008. Wikipedia, which is very good at US AM radio stations, also has an article about Dayton's oldest radio station: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WING

Wednesday, 3 December 2008

WMCA New York NY 570

Today I have been listening to some Smøla recordings from 27 September 2008, and the first new station I found was WMCA. Two very nice emails both confirmed my reception. Thank you!

WLNO New Orleans LA 1060

Stations from New Orleans have been on my most wanted list ever since I visited The Big Easy back in 1993. A fantastic city! On 23 October 2008 WLNO was heard with a poor signal for just a few minutes, hardly good enough for a reception report. But to my great pleasure they were able to confirm my reception - thanks a lot!
